Useful Online Resources

Postby Doodie on 30 Jan 2007 07:50 pm

This has to be the most concise observation of my working habits that I've ever seen.

All employers need to read this. And immediately.

More PHP.

Wow. That's a lot of color scheme options.

Heh. Most of this is obvious. But I'm still saving it to send to people.

My first post included some stupid introduction to the thread... about what kinds of stuff to put on it, etc. Maybe just that one got deleted?

I could have sworn that I also linked to http://www.payscale.com.

Hmm. Probably not... I mean, I ALWAYS have a bunch of nonsense to start off my threads, it's just habit :) The way this one is starting (with that single link, no remarks) it just looks off. Ya know?

EDIT: OR MAYBE I'M AN IDIOT AND HIT EDIT INSTEAD OF QUOTE. AH AH AH AH. Aw w man :( That link on the first post is from 03/13/07 (if you check digg), that's why everything's all crapped up. Blegh. Stupid.

How to start and finish stuff. Personally, I never finish anything. It's horrible. Uh... I wish I could say this article has changed my ways, but it's just "a good piece of advice".

Kinda handy little color scheme tool - I recommend this when I can see that someone doesn't have much of an eye for color coordination.

http://www.genopal.com/online.htm#

I much prefer Absolute Color Picker by Eltima Software. When you see the perfect shade that you want to use for your menu - in the background of the photo that some coworker sent you of his hideously ugly child, whom he constantly asserts is the cutest kid ever - this is the easiest, fastest way to get the color! Click a button, drag the cursor to the color you want, and there you have the HEX value. Copy and paste into your CSS and voila!

http://www.eltima.com/products/free-color-picker/

I heard this has some scripts for those who don't feel like writing their own, or want to learn by examining other developers' scripts:

(haven't really had a chance to check it out yet...)

Damn it, does anyone have that website that takes a snapshot of your webpage from 29083423 different browsers? I keep finding it and losing it :(

Edit: found it. this thing's awesome.

ALA has an article this week about a script that looks pretty useful. It helps implement functionality similar to some of the not-so-well supported pseudo-classes in CSS3.

List of PCWorld editors' favorite (windows) downloads over the last year (mostly freeware I think).

I haven't actually browsed the list but I'm sure there's at least gotta be something useful :)

FireShot is a useful tool: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5648

I was having to make a lot of screenshots and didn't have time to look for something like this so I was just splicing segments of the page together in photoshop (took forever) but for the future a coworker showed me this, so much easier.
