well they deleted it because of "copyright bla bla bla". Why the hell would anyone delete a promotional video of your latest product? Silly

man from all the rumors i was thinking they were going to release an iphone OS upgrade, but i guess that'll be at wwdc?

also speaking of the iphone rumors, does anyone else find the idea of making the shell of the phone touch sensitive a la the magic mouse? i mean, i would imagine 90% of smartphone users in general get their phones a protective casing of some sort. what good is a touch sensitive shell if that means you can't actually protect the phone itself? maybe i'm missing something here.

I'm pretty sick of hearing about the iPad now. I mean, it sucks just like 95% of Apple's other products. Big surprise.

Still doesn't make me want it over Android. Especially the Nexus One.

I honestly really like the direction Microsoft is going with the Zune HD and their UI design for the Windows 7 Mobile OS. It's got a few rough patches but Apple has become the "boring, shiny standard" for design. I haven't seen much aesthetic risk or innovation since OSX came out.

Yeah I like the completely different direction MS took with their Win 7 phone OS. I'm wondering if I might consider going back to a Windows phone next time I upgrade. But at the moment I'm really liking Android so Windows would have to pretty seriously impress me to make me switch.

I don't know about that. It's the same shitty Windows Mobile system Microsoft has been shoveling at us for a decade, sporting a new UI look and with multitasking turned off.

Until I hear that WinMo has been totally revamped from the ground up, it will remain a "pass" for me.

What are you talking about, exactly? I don't ask that antagonistically; I'm just hoping you can elaborate because that doesn't align with what I've seen and heard. I just want to know what you're referring to that is the same as the old WinMo.

It almost seems like you might be referring to 6.5 or 6.5.3 or whatever other revisions of v. 6 they've made. Those are the same old crap. But 7 seems to be a complete departure from that. It's a completely different interface and user experience, built on a new kernel. So I'm seriously curious about what you see in it that makes it just the same old WinMo.

Um, it is new from the ground up. Multitasking isn't necessarily 'turned-off' but I don't like MS' answers so far on how exactly it will work.

Once again, Android's the better offering in my opinion, but MS really outdid themselves, albeit 3 years too late.

To be fair, it's not really an Apple-designed chip [it's more like Apple said "we want these CPUs and these GPUs on one die] and it's not the only, or even the best 'system-on-a-chip' out there.

I think it's interesting, but it's not going to change anything that wasn't already in the process of being changed.

I actually haven't seen anything that says it's not the same old WindowsCE core they've been using for ages. Where did you read that it's all-new? I'm interested to see stuff on the guts of WinMo 7, because the WinMo 5-6 or 6-6.5 just involved Microsoft just bolting on a few changes or a new look.

The new WinMo 7 looks interesting, but I'm leery of anything mobile that's smaller than a laptop and is Microsoft-based. The only thing I trust less from Redmond is their media player software, which has gone through many reinventions and still has virtually no traction.

Hmm...they're calling the new version "Windows Phone 7 Series". If I recall, the version of WMP that came with Windows XP was called "Windows Media Player 7 Series". What's with the "7 Series" monikers, Ballmer?

I watched all of the Steve Jobs Keynote video last night on the Apple website (even though it was 1.5 hours long!) and there are 2 modes for playing iPhone apps. One has them pixel-for-pixel as they exist now, while another rescales them to fit the new screen size.

slacker wrote:also the ipad is ugly as fuck.

Really? I would say it looks great. The looks alone will tempt many people to buy one.

Have you seen eBooks running on the iPad? Makes all other book readers look very dull. This is a fun feature that I think will help sell lots of this device. (And the full colour large screen will be great for picture-based books.)

I think it needs improving, sure, but it's like the iPod when that first came out. Imagine what they'll be capable of doing when version 3 is out.

someone mentioned to me that the kindle and others have a special screen that is much easier to read, some special technology custom to that device. and that an lcd is harder to read. also heard of a comment jobs made about ipad battery life, "who is going to sit and read a book for more than 4 hours?". all seem like valid points for arguing which reading material only device would be better. although, i can't say it would be a terrible thing to read a book on an ipad, lcd screen or not.

The "special technology" you're talking about is e-ink. Basically it looks like the image is painted on the screen using ink.

The no copy/paste bothers me more really, an older version of a web browser doesn't bother me as much because I know I'll need copy/paste but I doubt running IE 7 will actually in any way hinder browsing the web on the phone.

More importantly: what's your work address, what time does everyone go home at night and are the iPads left out when they do?
